What is Voice Banking?

Voice banking is a process that allows someone to create a synthetic voice on an AAC device that ideally sounds like their natural voice. You can do this by recording a large number of sayings and senteses when your voice is clear.

IEP

What is an IEP? - A plan that outlines the support services and goals a child with a disability needs to succeed in school. Purpose - Encuring that students with disabilities recieve the services and special instruction needed. What does it include? - Behavior and learning goals, objectives with measurable outcomes, current academic achievements and performand, and special education and services Who is involved? - Student, parents, teachers and anyone else who helps the student.

AI can help AAC devices become much more personalized. AI can also make communication better when a student uses an AAC. There are also benifits in helping with physical, sensory, and mental abilities.

Positives of AI and IEPs

• Time efficientcy - saves teachers lots of time
• Personilization to the specific student
• Consistency - if same generator is used accross whole school or district then all IEPs will be formated the same
• Graphs - if generator can access student data then it could create supportive graphs
• Idea generator - AI could be used as an idea or word generator

Negatives of AI and IEPs

• Lack of human judgement
• Fast does not equal correct
• Cheating?
• Liability for errors
• Parents worry that relying on AI to write IEPs may lead to dehumanization of the process and a lack of empathy for the students and families involved.

What is Predict Text?

Predict text is when the device can predict the word that the user is going to use next. By suggesting words and phrases based on the context of the conversation, predictive text not only speeds up communication but also introduces a dynamic element to it. This feature can significantly reduce the cognitive and physical strain on users, making communication less fatiguing and more engaging

AAC Device - Augumentative and Alternative Communication Device It is a tool that helps people communicate in ways other than speaking. It can convert words, sentences and images into speech. It can also allow users to type, draw, select or share pictures and videos, along with many other features.
