introduction.

"When the United States won its independence from England in 1776, each state celebrated thanksgiving on a different day. In 1863 President Abraham Lincoln, in an effort to unite the northern and southern fixed thanksgiving Day for the entire country as the last thursday of November. "

"Thanksgiving day was celebrated for the first time in 1621 by the pilgrims. The Pilgrims were a group of people from England, who came to America to have religious freedom"

What thanksgiving day is?

The Pilgrims were helped by the native americans, who showed them, how to hunt and grow food crops. The weather that year was very bad, so the first harvest was a real miracle. The Pilgrims decided to have a feast to thank for the crop that saved their lives. They invited their native american friends to the feast. They all ate food like wild birds, pumpkins, squash and berries.

Other dishes like potatoes (in various forms) and cranberry sauce are also considered traditional by most families.

The entire family comes together sits at the table, offers prayers to the Lord and celebrates though historians don't have any evidence to prove the turkey was eaten during the first thanksgiving dinner, but the thanksgiving celebration would be incomplete without it.
