·rESPIRATORY SIYSTEM·

The respiratory system or respiratory system is the set of organs that serve to exchange gases with the environment. In terrestrial vertebrates it is formed by the airways and lungs. Through the airways, air circulates towards the lungs, and in these organs the blood captures oxygen and releases carbon dioxide. The main organ of the respiratory system in humans and mammals is the lung. In the lung alveoli, the gas exchange process occurs through passive diffusion, thanks to which the blood captures atmospheric oxygen and eliminates carbon dioxide (CO2), a waste product of metabolism. The respiratory muscles are the diaphragm and the intercostal muscles. On inspiration the diaphragm contracts and descends, so the thoracic cavity expands and air enters the lungs. On expiration or exhalation, the diaphragm relaxes and rises, the thoracic cavity decreases in size causing the exit of the air from the lungs to the outside

1. Gas exchange (external respiration): This process occurs at the level of the respiratory organs (lungs, gills, etc.) and aims to exchange oxygen (O₂) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) between the environment and the blood. Main phases: • Inhalation: Oxygen is taken in from air or wate.r • Alveolar exchange: In the lungs (or equivalent structures), oxygen passes from the alveoli to the blood and CO₂ passes from the blood to the alveoli. • Exhalation: Carbon dioxide is expelled into the environment.

2. Cellular respiration: This is a chemical process that occurs within cells to produce usable energy in the form of ATP . Main phases •Glycolysis: Degradation of glucose in the cytoplasm, producing pyruvic acid and small amounts of ATP • Krebs cycle : It occurs in the mitochondrial matrix, where molecules derived from glucose are oxidized, generating NADH and FADH₂. • Electron transport chain: Occurs in the inner membranes of mitochondria. Here, oxygen is the final acceptor of electrons, forming water and releasing large amounts of ATP.

Respiration (gas exchange and cellular respiration).

Breathing is an essential process for maintaining life and can be divided into two main aspects:

DISEASES RELATED TO THE RESPIRATORY SYSTEM

Asthma

Pneumonia

Lung cancer

Bronchitis

Pulmonary fibrosis

Sleep apnea

Healthy habits

Healthy habits are important to keep your respiratory system healthy 1.Do not smoke and stay in a smoke-free space2.Exercise regularly3.Stay in well-ventilated spaces4.Maintain good hygiene

What is asthma?

It is a Disease of the bronchi, characterized by usually nocturnal and feverish attacks, with difficult and longing breathing, cough, scant and frothy expectoration, and respiratory wheezing.
Lung cancer is cancer that forms in the tissues of the lung, usually in the cells that line the air passages. It is the leading cause of death from cancer in both men and women. It is usually caused by excessive smoking

What is lung cancer?

Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs in one or both lungs. The air sacs can fill with fluid or pus (purulent material), causing coughing up phlegm or pus, fever, chills, and difficulty breathing.

What is pneumonia?

Lung tissue is damaged making breathing difficult. Pulmonary fibrosis can be caused by a variety of factors, such as toxic exposure, infections, or autoimmune diseases.

What is?

Pulmonary fibrosis

Chronic: It is caused by smoking, constant exposure to smoke and constant infections. Can last months and even years.

Acute: It is caused by viruses, bacteria, or smoke or tobacco. Can last between 1 to 3 weeks.
Types of bronchitis

Inflammation of the bronchi causing cough, mucus, and difficulty to breathing.

What is bronchitis?
Bronchitis

Disorder in which a person's breathing is temporarily interrupted during sleep. This can lead to poor sleep quality and other health problems.

What is?

Sleep apnea
