In 1700, as well as in the period of the Enlightement we find revolutions in various field:

Public opinion

Scientific discoveries

Journeys of exploration and cosmopolitanism

Tolerance

Butabove all we find the first industrial revolution

Industrial revolution

WeIt happens above all from the point of view of industries and everything becomes produced machinery (before we found manufactured goods). This was accompanied by strong population growth, which led to a progressive decline in mortality; all this required greater production to satisfy everyone's needs. Machinery was ceated to facilitate production: James Watt invented the coal-powered steam engine.

Factories are born and they need workers, therefore the figure of the worker is born. Factories in the late XVIII and early XIX centuries were dangerous and unforgiving places to work. The working conditions that working class people faced were:

Long working hours (12-16 hours shifts)

Little change of air

Low wages, which barely covered the cost of living

Women and children were also exploited

Workplaces with limited or no rights

LUDDISM

The name of the movement derives from Ned Ludd, a young man who in 1779 destroyed a loom in protest. Luddism was a workers' protest movement, developed at the beginning of the 19th century in England, characterized by the sabotage of industrial production. Machinery was considerated a threat by salaried workers because it causes low wages and uneployment.
