what is blended learning?

Blended Learning is the strategic combination of face-to-face and digital learning experiences A 2022 meta-analysis of 84 studies has shown that blended learning can significantly improve K12 students’ overall performance. The neuroscience has shown that it helps students process and assimilate information easier, that the brain is more receptive to shorter modules, and that students learn more quickly when there is a blend of methods and formats

Implementing blended learning

We successfully introduced Blended Learning station rotation to a 1st year teacher (3rd Grade, Hill Elementary) 1. Stations embedded in our LMS with short video instructions and an exit ticket 2. All aligned to TEKS 3. Varied stations: --Small Group w/teacher --Map activity (label/color/etc.) --Promethean Board Quizlet matching --Quizlet Spelling --Blooket Game --Video/Questions --Gimkit Escape Game

Secondary level example

For classes where you want to minimize student movement, the stations can be put in your LMS: 1. Students switch stations by going to a different folder --Filtering software like GoGuardian really help 2. Teacher can still pull a small group 3. Varied Stations: --Each station has an exit ticket --Directions for help --Students work at their own pace, preferably with some control of choice

LMS implementations

Playlist/ Progress Stations

Schoology (and other LMS) can customize completion requirements: -Ex: Creating a series of review levels where students complete various activities and then take a quiz where they must achieve a set grade before being allowed to move to the next level. --Use completion requirements to manage and track student progress

Secondary level example

Another example using Google Docs and Forms: 1. All stations are on one document --Includes instructions for the activity as well as expectations for each station. 2. All activities have an exit ticket 3. Varied Stations: --Gamification elements --1 physical map activity --Small group with teacher --Students work at their own pace, preferably with some control of choice

Let's practice

Pick a teacher from your school who you'd like to implement Blended Learning Station Rotation (you can use this template): 1. Think of 3-5 varied stations 1 needs to be small group discussion, at least 1 physical/in-person activity, and then a couple varied digital activity (ex: content review, gamified review, etc.) 2. Instructions What instructions will the teacher give at the start? What instructions will they have in the stations? 3. Accountability How will students be held accountable at each station? Ex: Exit Ticket with Google Forms or Schoology Assessments Scan the QR code or go to: bit.ly/TEEBlended2
