THE CASTLE OF GORMAZ
Al-Andalus is the name that, in the classical Arab tradition, has served to designate the territory of the Iberian Peninsula.
WHAT IS AL-ANDALUS?
978: Successful conquest of the castle by Count García Fernández.
974-975: Failed siege by the Christian kings Sancho II of Pamplona and Ramiro III of León.
965-966: Significant reconstruction and expansion by order of Caliph Al-Hakam II, under the leadership of General Ghalib.
9th century: Initial construction as a defensive fortress during Muslim rule in the Iberian Peninsula

- After the Christian conquest, El Cid was lord of Gormaz and warden of the castle.
