Climate

Weather

It is the condition of the atmosphere in a specific place and time.

It is the weather in a specific place over a longer period of time.

Climate zones

The Earth has three climate zones: - Tropical - Temperate -Polar

Landscapes

Landscapes change depending on the climate. Different landscapes have different animals and plants.

- Tropical climate landscapes include savannah, deserts and jungles. They are hot and humid. - Temperate climate landscapes have moderate temperature. - Some polar climate landscapes are always covered in ice and snow. Other places have ice and snow in winter that melts in the summer. They are cold.

Guess the climate landscape!

Ecosystems

It is the physical environment and all the living and non-living things that live and interact in it.
In an ecosystem we found: - Biotic factors are living things (Ex: flowers, animals, trees) - Abiotic factors are non-living things (Ex: water, rocks, sand)

Ecosystems can be classified in two ways: - According to their enviroment, ecosystems can be terrestial or aquatic. - According to human intervention, ecosystems can be natural or artificial.

Natural

Terrestial

If humans have not changed the enviroment.

They are found on land. Ex: rainforests, deserts or savannahs

Aquatic

Artificial

They are found where water collects. Ex: rivers, lakes or oceans. *Marine or freshwater

If humans have created them.

Living things in ecosystems

There are several different types of groups of animals in an ecosystem:

POPULATION

SPECIES

C0MMUNITY

A group of living things from the same specie that live in the same ecosystem.

Group of living things with similar charasteristics.

Group of populations that live in the same ecosystem.

Food chains

Living things need food to provide energy to live. Depending on how they get their food, they are classified as: - Producers - Consumers - Decomposers

*It is a balanced ecosystem when the populations of living things remain constant.

In an ecosystem, some populations feed on another animals. For example, a frog eats a fly. The frog is the predator, and the fly is the prey.

Symbiosis

There are relationships between members of different species called symbiosis. Symbiosis can be divided into:

Commensalism

Mutualism

Parasitism

one living thing benefits and the other is harmed

one living thing benefits and the other is not affected

both living things benefit

Biodiversity

It is the number of different species that exist on Earth. It provides us many natural resources that we need to live.
Why is it important? Biodiversity is necessary to maintain balanced ecosystems. Biodiversity improves the quality of the air that we breathe.

Climate change

The Earth's atmosphere covers it and keeps the temperature and humidity needed for life on Earth. This is known as the greenhouse effect. Human activity such burning coal, oil or gas is producing greenhouse gases. These greenhouse gases are causing the climate to change very quickly.

Climate change

Climate change affects landscapes and the animals and plants that live in them. Human activities put more gases into the atmosphere. The atmosphere retains the heat and Earth gets hotter.

Overconsumption

People consume many more products than they need. We call this overconsumption. It harms biodiversity, creates many problems for ecosystems, and damages our planet. People get many products from living things, like food, textiles, and medicine.
