PDA: Reflexiona en las implicaciones sociales del sistema de castas que se estableció en la sociedad novohispana.Reflexiona y emite su opinión acerca del uso del trabajo de africanos y afrodescendientes en Nuev España.

¿Qué son las castas?

Grupos sociales que conformaron estratos de acuerdo con sus características étnicas, las cuáles los distinguen de los demás

Sociedad novohispana=desigualdad entre castas y diferencia de oportunidades de acuerdo con su estrato para obtener un trabajo, aprender y desempeñar un oficio o gozar de privilegios económicos y legales.

Principales castas = españoles, indígenas, africanos y mestizos.

Castas más y menos favorecidas:Albarazado con negra = Cambujo Cambujo con India = Sambaigo Tente en el aire con mulata = No te entiendo No te entiendo con india = Tornaatraz

Reflexión = La población no podía modificar sus condiciones económicas si pertenecía a las castas más discriminadas. La desigualdad en esa época era parte de las políticas de segregación promovidas por el gobierno virreinal a través del sistema de castas

Propuesta inicial: separación de indígenas y españoles Siglo XVII: el mestizaje convivía en el campo, las minas, los puertos, los pueblos y ciudades. Conquistadores, conquistados, esclavos africanos y asiáticos. La Corona crea una pirámide estratificada donde cambiar de lugar era prácticamente imposible.

El sistema de castas

EL SISTEMA DE CASTAS

ESPAÑOLES O PENINSULARES: Ocuparon los puestos más importantes de la administración y de la Iglesia. Ejercían como: -Virreyes / Oidores de la Real Audiencia (encargada de gobernar e impartir justicia) / Miembros de los consulados de comerciantes / Altos dignatarios de la Iglesia / Funcionarios de la Corona. Su posición les permitía controlar el intercambio comercial entre España, América y Asia. Contaban con privilegios: no pagaban impuestos y se les tenían consideraciones en caso de ser juzgados.

CRIOLLOS

*Hijos de españoles nacidos en Nueva España o hijos de criollos*No se les permitía asumir puestos importantes, sí desempeñaban algunos cargos en el gobierno. *Podían ser profesionistas, miembros de los consulados de comercio, dueños de talleres textiles, panaderías, zapaterías, haciendas o de reales de minas, ganaderos o agricultores. Ocuparon responsabilidades medias y altas en la Iglesia. Algunos compraron títulos nobiliarios o de órdenes de caballería.

Mestizos

*Eran la mayoría de la población y el grupo más diverso.*Primeros mestizos: hijos de españoles e indígenas, tuvieron mejores posibilidades que el resto de esta casta. *Se dedicaban a actividades comerciales pequeñas: productos manufacturados y alimentos; barberos, zapateros, carpinteros.

Indígenas

*Conformado por diversas etnias*No todos hablaban español *Se dedicaban a actividades agropecuarias y mineras. *Contaban con una legislación propia que evitaba que fueran juzgados por la Inquisición y les aseguraba la propiedad de sus tierras, aunque hubo quienes fueron despojados.

Esclavos

*Traídos a Nueva España y afrodescendientes*Algunos consiguieron su libertad, pero permanecieron sin derechos y se integraron a las actividades realizadas por otras castas. *No tuvieron ningún tipo de decisión sobre sí mismos y dependieron completamente de la voluntad de sus amos.

*El sistema de castas ya no se utilizó con la instauración de las Reformas Borbónicas (cambios para tener mayor control y orden en las posesiones americanas) en el siglo XVIII.*La sociedad quedó dividida en peninsulares (con mayores privilegios y acceso al poder) y americanos (criollos y mestizos no podían intervenir en el destino del país, ni participar en actividades económicas que generaran más riqueza. *Ls indígenas representaban más del 60% de l apoblación durante el siglo XVIII, sin embargo seguían siendo explotados como fuerza de trabajo

EL TRABAJO ESCLAVO

1580 - 1615Llegan cerca de 100 000 esclavos de África destinados a los trabajos en minas, ingenios azucareros y puertos de carga y descarga de mercancía

EL TRABAJO ESCLAVO

jaFueron explotados y violentadosNo se les consideraba seres humanos, sino propiedades. Legados Lengua: mucama, safari, chamba, fulano, cafre, maraca, marimba.. Gastronomía: plátano macho, yuca, camote, sandía, melón. Música: bachata, cumbia, jazz.

Algunos obtivieron su libertad comprándolao por concesión de sus dueños, otros huyeron y se establecieron en zonas no colonizadas, (palenques) (cimarrones) donde pudieron tener mejores condiciones de vida.

A las mujeres se les obligaba a trabajar como vendedoras, hiladoras, dulceras, tabaqueras, bordadoras, cocineras; en actividades agrícolas y de las minas
