Structure

The structure includes the auxiliary verb have or has (for the third person singular), followed by got.

1. Affirmative: I/You/We/They have got a book. He/She/It has got a car. Negative: I/You/We/They haven’t got a dog. He/She/It hasn’t got a bike.

In American English, people often just use have instead of have got.

We use have (got) here to refer to both verbs: I've got a terrible pain in my back. They haven't got a car. We use have (got) to talk about possession, relationships, characteristics and illnesses.
