Student Behavior Protocol
Each student responds to information differently. Below are the behaviors that I will consider to be important to raise concern. Together, we can better ensure your student is prepared and set for success.
Escaping Class
Plan thestructure of your communication
Emotional Outbursts
Hierarchize and give visual weight to the main content
Disruptive Behavior
Define secondary messages with interactivity
Physical Harm
Establish a flow throughthe content
Academic Awareness
Measurethe results
This raises concern when a student is asking to leave my classroom 3 or more times a week regularly. Asking to leave class includes going to the restroom, going to see the nurse, etc.
Escaping Class
Students have needs, I get that!
Students have a lot going on, especially with multiple teachers, other students, and any outside of school commitments. However, emotional outbursts in any form (crying, screaming, social withdrawal) that goes against a students personality will raise concern.
Emotional Outbursts
Big Feelings in Small Bodies
Disruptive Behavior that would raise concern is whe a student is reminded to focus more than 3 times in a class period. When one student is not focusing, then other students are off topic and now the content is not being learned. I love hearing about what students did over break or the weekend, but during transition or open discussion times.
Disruptive Behavior
Students learn all together, or not at all.
Although this is standard for schools, Physical Harm that raises concern within my classroom includes self harm. Students go through a mirage of emotions, some we can see and others we cannot. Self-harm appears in a variety of ways, including cuts, eating disorders, hitting self or head off objects, etc.
Physical Harm
School is a safe space.
Academic Awareness concerns begin when there is a decrease in a studnets participation, assignments being turned in, or lower test scores.
