Pre-Kindergarten-2nd Grade Students

Objectives & Learning Goals

The goal is for 85% of students to be on or above grade level by the completion of 2nd grade in phonics and phonological awareness skills. This goal will be accomplished by implementing a researched-based phonics (UFLI, Heggerty, etc.) program. Accomplishing this goal will assist students in reading, comprehension, and minimize the number of Reading Improvement Plans in 2nd grade.

This goal will be accomplished by implementing intensive high frequency word practice and usage. Accomplishing this goal will assist students in reading, comprehension, and minimize the number of Reading Improvement Plans in 2nd grade.

Teacher Leadership & Innovation

Teachers will take on the role of providing sound phonics, phonological awareness, and high frequency word instruction during whole group. Teachers will implement instruction in small group as needed. Teachers may find various games, strategies, and personalized programs to aid instruction. Teachers will be flexible in supporting the needs of students based on data and assessments.

Connections with Stakeholders

All stakeholders will be informed of the problem (weaknesses in phonics, phonemic awareness, and high frequnecy words) and how it will be addressed.

Community Members

Families

Families will be supplied with strategies, books, and materials to support students' growth at home. Families will be invited to school events relating to academic progress.

Community members will be encouraged to support by providing incentives, donations, etc. Community members will be invited to school events relating to academic progress.

Support Staff

Central Office

Support staff will aid in pulling small groups and intervention services for students. Support staff may also aid in supporting teachers in classroom activities promoting student growth.

Central office will be invited to attend school events. They will be updated on any changes in meeting the goal and data progress. Central office will be invited to conduct walkthroughs and classroom observations.

Data

Feedback

Pre and post-data will be collected from the i-Ready diagnostic test at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. The data will be broken into reading subcategories such as phonics, phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, fluency, and comprehension. Post data will be used to determine if students were successful in learning phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, and high frequency words.

Feedback and data progress will be shared with stakeholders during stakeholder meetings and other means of constant communication to provide the opportunity to contribute to ongoing improvement.
