Marie Skłodowska Curie

Marie Skłodowska-Curie was born on November 7th, 1867 in Warsaw, Poland. Marie Curie was a Polish-born French scientist and a pioneer in radioactivity research.

Marie Curie had a pet tiger.

She was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize in Physics and the only woman who won 2 Nobel Prizes, one in Physics (1903) and the other in Chemistry (1911).

Marie discovered two chemical elements: polonium and radium. She died of aplastic anemia, a rare type of anemia that probably resulted from her frequent exposure to polonium and radium. She is remembered as one of the greatest scientists of all time.

Marie's notebooks are still stored in lead-lined boxes in France, as they were heavily contaminated with radium.
