Snell-Descartes Law
Summary
Snell-Descartes law, also known as Snell's law, is a fundamental principle in optics that describes how light bends (refracts) when it passes from one medium to another. It is named after the Dutch mathematician Willebrord Snellius and the French philosopher René Descartes.

Importance in Optics
Explanation
Mathematical expression
n₁ × sin(θ₁) = n₂ × sin(θ₂)
- n₁ and n₂: the refractive indices
- θ₁ is the angle of incidence
- θ₂ is the angle of refraction,
Phenomenom of total intern reflexion
sin(θ_c) = n₂ / n₁
- n₁ and n₂: the refractive indices
- θ_c is the critical angle
- n₁ < n₂
