What is a Mass Casualty Incident?

What do we do?

A mass casualty incident is an event that overwhelms the local healthcare system. This occurs when the number of injuries exceeds the amount of resources in a short period of time.

MCI

Triaging is how first repsonders prioritize patients and the care they need when there are a limited number or resources.

SALT is the method used to sort the priority patients away from the incident.

During emergencies, chronic conditons can cause patients to be more vulnerable. They can increase the risk of complications and cause them to worsen.

Assessments will determine the patient's condition and potential treatment options based on the findings.

Treatment will help the patient return to normal daily living or as close as possible.
