Ellis Island is a partially artificial island at the mouth of the Hudson River in New York Bay .The original surface area was increased between 1890 and 1930 with debris from the excavations of the New York subway , until it reached 11 hectares.

Author's Name

Ellis Island welcomed over 12 million immigrants from all around the world between 1892 and 1954. It opened on January 1, 1892, over 8 million people had passed through the Castle Garden Immigration Depot in Manhattan . Migrants arriving at the port of Ellis Island were required to show the Immigration Service doctors their embarkation documents containing information about the ship that had brought them there and their personal identification documents, which would be examined and approved during medical and bureaucratic inspections. Those inspections were examined in The Great Hall, a gigantic building which had the possibility of hosting many migrants from all over the world.

The statue of Liberty was a gift for America from the french in 1886 as a simbol of frienship between nations. It's located at the entrance to the harbor on the Hudson River in the center of Manhattan Bay , on the rocky Liberty Island . It was created by the Frenchman Auguste Bartholdi , with the collaboration of Gustave Eiffel , who designed the internal steel lattice structure , connected to the outside with the cladding in shaped and riveted copper sheets. Mrs. Liberty is now the biggest simbol of New York City showing all the tourist the importance of the America continent.
