Summary of Article
Response to Question: Did the findings prove both statistically and practically evident? Why or why not?
Summary of article
This article discusses the efficacy of online book clubs versus face-to-face interactions. It also considers how researchers use different methods to help students want to read more. An interesting study showed a marginal difference between online and face-to-face book club use for preteens and teens. In addition, this study looks at an experimental design with survey's that bolsters the results of the studies that the researchers used.
Importance of stats in research
With designing a study statistical analysis is beneficial to help analyze the results,
Usually found in as a result when researchers use surveys.
Found in a quantitative research studies.
According to Cresswell and Cresswell (2023), "The publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (American Psychological Association, 2020), suggests that the most complete meaning of the results come from reporting extensive description..." (p.170)
It will help enhance the discussion and results section of the research.
Helps researchers provide a descriptive analysis given the practical evidence, context, and components of the study.

What are the definitions of statistical, practical, and physical evidence?
According to Cresswell and Cresswell (2023),
- Statistical Significance Testing- uses confidence intervals and effect sizes.....Statistical significance testing helps qualify whether a result is due only to chance or some factor(s) of interest. (p.170).
- Practical evidence- Two forms of practical evidence of the results can also be reported (a) confidence interval and (b) the effect size. (p.172).
- Physical evidence- Participants, variables etc.
Response to the question: Did the findings prove both statistically and practically significant? Why or why not?
First, this article used an experimental design to emphasize whether online book clubs were better than face-to-face ones in libraries or schools. The study's researchers created three different groups and found that the online groups were more or equally effective towards the other groups. According to Sharber, Melrose, and Whorl (2009), "Online book clubs are just beginning to become points of conversation in non-research journals in education and library science." Librarians are introducing an option of having online book clubs for younger generations to increase the value in wanting to read. In the survey that these researchers conducted, they found that young pre-teens were more adept to read more if it was online versus face-to-face interactions. According to Sharber, Melrose, and Whorl (2009) "Eleven of The girls have been in a book club prior to participating in this online club. The majority of the girls considered themselves readers. On the pre-club survey, nine girls I identify with the statement, I read all the time because I love to read’; four checked, ‘‘I like to read’’ and one girl checked, I read when I have to. It is not one of my favorites things’’.
Response continued.
The last quote on the previous slide, I think this proves that the study held both statistical and practical evidence that can help librarians to analyze how they would want to implement either an online book club or a face-to-face book club in their library. The evidence was proven at the Hennepin County Library where the three authors tested various technological platforms and recorded their success rate. I think that this made the survey statistics more practical as they explored the different platforms and technology to help the country. In addition, I think that this study has both statistical and practical results because it can be utilized in libraries. The American Library Association (ALA) and the Young Adult Library Association (YALA) have a Tech month or week that backs up the use of the online book club platforms versus face-to-face interactions. In conclusion, I think that with the variables, pre-study and post study results, and the experiments at the HCL library show the significance of the results and its hopefully, future use.
Conclusions
Statistics give results in any quantitative study, have a more definitive definition.
Online book clubs can be beneficial because online book clubs give practical and statistical significance to the researchers as a result of what they found when conducting the study.
Knowing about the different types pf statistical analysis in studies is essential to learning about an experimental design of research studies.
'The future of successfully engaging preteens and teens in literacy activities (i.e. reading and talking about a good book!) depends in part on offering the option to do it online. " Sharber, Melrose and Whorl.

Visual content is a cross-cultural and universal language, just like music. We are able to understand images from millions of years ago, even from other cultures. We don't like to bore. We don't want to be repetitive. We do it differently. We sabotage boredom. We create what the brain enjoys consuming because it stimulates it.
