In Unit 1 we will focus on the elements of art and the principle of emphasis. Emphasis helps artists draw attention to the focal point (or most important part) of an artwork. We will use color emphasis in our very own Unit 1 project creations that we will make for the course. 😊 In our first unit of the Art 8 course, we will be focusing on the art of still lives. A still life drawing is a drawing of commonplace objects. These objects are often items you would find in and around your house. Still life artworks often include items such as food, flowers, seashells, rocks, jewelry, vases, books, plates, and cups. You will create your very own still life for the unit 1 project!
What is a still-life?
Please remember that when it comes to the projects for the Art 8 course, Mrs. Milam does NOT grade you based on your artistic abilities. As long as you follow all project directions, you will be good to go!
Project Due: 2/12/25

Our very first project in the Art 8 course will ask you to create a still life drawing that illustrates three household objects that are sitting on a table. Examples of household objects that you can draw in your own still life include: a coffee mug, candle, vase, fruit, art supplies, etc. In your still life drawing, you will use a pencil to sketch out your still life design and then you will use colored pencil to color in ONLY the three still life objects in order to emphasize those objects as your focal point. Once your “Still Life” has been completed, you will also answer some questions with your creation. Check out some more info and examples, to the right.
