How to play

Navigation

The aim of these oral and listening activities is to practice appearance vocabulary along with any additional corresponding adjectives. They are designed to enhance oral skills and listening abilities but they can also serve as extra written practice. The activities can be used both for groups and individual students.

True to the image

* Put ss into 2 groups or create even number of groups. Pick an image for one team and show the other ones to the other team (slides A and B). Tell them that each S has to create a sentence one by one describing the image. At the same time the other team guesses. * Team race - How many can you guess in 5 minutes? Divide ss into teams and tell them to describe as many images as possible. Show them slides A or B where the timer shows 5 min. Give a point for every correct guess. When you run out of time, switch. The team that collects the most points wins.

Speaking - Click PLAY and you get the image and a corresponding set of words. The s needs to create a description that includes all the words, those which fit the image and the ones that don't. Pair game * Put ss in pairs and pick a picture for one of them. Ask a s to describe the person using the prompts given while the other person checks if all the words are used. Then switch roles. * Writing Ask ss to write the descriptions they created or use a different prompt to give them extra practice.

* Individual practice - Slide A and B contain a few images for students to match with audio descriptions. Ss click on the bubbles and listen to descriptions and then match the image. * Variation - team game - start by asking ss to describe orally all the images of the people they see. Only then, play the audio in each bubble and ask ss to point to the correct picture or move it. Follow-up activity - written practice - ask the ss to write their own descriptions of the people they see.

Who am I?

* Pair work - Slide A and B include a set of 20 images presenting people's faces. By clicking the button PICK ss get an image to describe to their friends. The other S has to guess which person his/her friend is talking about. * Team games * Put ss in teams and pick a picture for only one ss in the group. Ask them to describe the image to their friends. The first person to guess the image gets a point.

Student 1 - pick A and go to the chart. Click pick and describe the person to your friend. Let him/her guess. Student 2 - listen carefully to your friend. Who is he / she talking about? Guess. Change roles - student 2 - pick B and dictate to your friend.
