  • The IB is offered by 5,300 schools in 158 countries worldwide and is studied by 1.4 million students. There are currently 130 IB World Schools in the UK, 60 per cent of which are in the independent sector, and most of which offer the Diploma Programme. About 4,500 students in the UK take the Diploma or Career-related Programme every year.
  • At NSfG we offer the Career-related programme and here is a video to explain why.

The IB is a global leader in international education

About The Career Related Programme

The IBCP is a baccalaureate because:

  • It’s an integrated programme where you study a range of subjects
  • Students develop a range of skills
  • A range of components has to be passed to gain certification
  • As a consequence students are guaranteed to have developed communication skills, research skills, language skills, essay writing skills and a good ethical understanding

  • It is also a unique passport to over 900 of the top universities world wide: they know IB students are higher achievers than most, fulfil their potential and are, therefore, keen to attract them into their institution.
  • “ I think part of why our cohort was so successful when applying to university was because they stood out from other candidates”
David Barrs, Head Teacher, The Anglo European School in Essex, UK

    • When making your subject choices think about:
    • If the traditional A level route is for you
    • If you would like a programme of study that links to other subjects that provide you with a clear career path
    • If you would like extra content that makes you stand out from the crowd such as charity work and learning about a new culture
    • If you would like to gain extra UCAS points for university by doing the Reflective Project
    • If you would like extra pastoral support such as help with time management, how to analyse on exam questions and so on
    • If you would like to be part of a team supporting each other and going on trips
    • If the answer is yes to any of the above you may want to consider the full IBCP programme.
    • In order to be able to study the full programme you need to have the following course combination: 2 x diploma subjects and 1x career-related subject such as a BTEC/ Cambridge Technical

    Examples of IBCP pathways

    Listen to slide
    1. Personal and professional Skills –Based around 5 main themes which are: personal development, intercultural understanding, effective communication, thinking processes, Applied Ethics
    2. Service Learning - Students work towards meeting an identified community need. For example visiting a retirement home or raising money for some equipment at the hospice.
    3. Language development – This is to ensure all students have access and are exposed to an additional language. They do not have to learn a new language. It is more about the developing an understanding of another culture.
    4. The Reflective Project –Assessed grades A-E – 12 UCAS pts Students identify, analyse, discuss and evaluate an ethical dilemma associated with an issue from their career-related studies. For example if the student is studying business a title idea may be ‘How ethical is it for retailers to sell cheap clothing?’
