The Teaching-Learning Process

The Teaching-Learning Process is one through which new knowledge is acquired; it is a complex process in which several interrelated factors intervene, some of them not yet identified. Several elements are involved, including human and material resources. Without a doubt, the most important relationship is the one established by teacher and student. There must be adequate conditions for learning to be meaningful and last, both in the school system or in any educational intervention. Several theories provide elements to raise the quality of the process. We will address learning theories in this course which have undoubtedly endured over time due to their strengths and scientific bases with solid arguments.

The Psychological and Pedagogical Foundations in the Teaching-Learning Process turn out to be of great interest in current education, because an individual must be emotionally stable to learn. Psychology has a great interest in teaching-learning since it deals directly with human conduct and behavior. There are several theories of human behavior that are the product of research. There is still much to learn because people in similar situations behave differently, which undoubtedly also occurs in the teaching-learning process. From the pedagogical point of view, psychology has been directly involved in contributing to education concerning mental health, how to motivate students, and why each student should be given individual attention by applying different strategies that maintain their interest in learning.

Cognitive Psychology demonstrates that the human mind should be seen as an integrated system that has encoded information which processes the information it receives. This is a benefit to the learning process. It invites us to implement new pedagogical models that improve educational quality, which is where learning theories play an important role, as they have shown favorable results in education.

The Motivation One of the most important aspects to maintain in the learning process is motivation. It is a challenge from a pedagogical point of view. It requires each student’s interest so that the teacher can detect the students’ learning needs through analysis, reflection, and criticism, generating external stimuli that awakens and keeps them motivated. Hence, psychology plays a relevant role in decision-making regarding pedagogical and didactic strategies.
