Approaches to the Adaptation
- Classroom Learning Experience: Increase of student agency and engagement, development of soft skills;
- Completed Project for Publication as OER: Accessibility was the core goal.
AI Contribution to the Adaptation
The approach to AI in the adaptation of El Conde Partinuplés focused on complementing the text adaptation made by students collectively with AI-generated visuals, interactive avatars, and immersive environments. Supported our approach (enhance engagement and student agency in the classroom, develop soft skills, and promote inclusivity and accessibility)
The Text
- In El Conde Partinuplés, Rosaura, the Empress of Constantinople, fears a prophecy foretelling betrayal and the fall of her kingdom if she marries.
- Pressured to choose a husband from several suitors, she uses magic and the help of her cousin Aldora to select Count Partinuplés.
The Text of the Adaptation
- Easy-to-Read Standards are guidelines published by the European Union to make information accessible to people with reading difficulties and promote accessibility and inclusion.
- Student adaptation edited and reviewed to comply with the standards (in Spanish).
Some Easy-To-Read Standards
- Grammar: Affirmative and simple sentences in active voice are used, avoiding complex structures to facilitate understanding.
- Vocabulary: A glossary is included for complex terms, and consistent vocabulary is used throughout the text.
- Design and Layout: The images accompanying the text are well-titled and related to different passages of the text to improve visual interpretation.
- Typography: A single font (Source Sans Pro) is used, and important information is highlighted in bold, with clear links to the glossary.
Some Easy-To-Read Standards
- Balance between the fidelity to the original text and the accessibility for a wide audience through multimodal elements
Why "Pressbooks"?
Collaboration: Pressbooks allows multiple user roles and includes version control to manage changes and contributions. Adaptability: Offers flexible editing options and various export formats (PDF, EPUB, MOBI). Content Sharing: Supports Creative Commons licenses to manage how works are shared and used. It also integrates with Learning Management Systems (LMS) and other educational tools. Accessibility: Pressbooks collaborates with various organizations to meet WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards and supports creators with guides and accessible export formats. Integration with H5P: Pressbooks integrates with H5P, a tool for creating interactive content that allows customization of activities based on specific learning objectives and provides instant feedback.

Conclusions
This project used the potential of AI to complement creativity while fostering accessibility and the development of soft skills.
Questions
- AI Integration: Ethical balance between the use of tools like generative images and their educational value?
- Accessibility: What improvements can make Easy-to-Read standards and platforms more inclusive?
- Sustainability: Can we ensure long-term scalability and relevance for adaptations of this kind?
- Quantitative metrics to help evaluate the project's ongoing educational impact?
