Selena was born in Lake Jackson, Texas on April 16, 1971. Her father who was a musician took notice in Selena's singing talent when she was 6 years old.

1990s Coverage

At the age of 15, Selena won "Female Vocalist of the year" award in 1987, at the Tejano Music Awards profoundly the opening doors for Tejano artists. She continued to win this award for 9 years in a row.

In 1994, Selena would go on to win a grammy for Best Mexican-American album. The album was called 'Selena Live'.

On March 31, 1995, who wouldv'e ever thought things would take a turn like they did. Selena's life was cut short after a heated argument with manager about missing money. Who would of known it would of led to her getting shot and losing her life in the hospital.

It seems that compared to the 1990s vs now, Yolanda recieved more spite and hate. Now they are taking interest in her point of view since it makes for an interesting story and people that grieved the death of Selena have calmed down. Not much has changed with the impact Selena has made on Tejano Music as she continues to get medals even in death,
