Porém, após a morte de D. João V, o contexto começou a mudar. Durante o reinado de D. José I (1750-1777) e sob a liderança do Marquês de Pombal, houve reformas profundas na administração e na economia do país, especialmente após o devastador terremoto de Lisboa em 1755. Este evento não só destruiu parte significativa da capital, mas também impactou a mentalidade e as prioridades do país, levando a um esforço de reconstrução em grande escala, onde a arte e a arquitetura desempenharam um papel importante.

Enquadramento Político

No século XVIII, Portugal vivia um período de profundas mudanças políticas e econômicas. Durante o reinado de D. João V (1706-1750), o país experimentou um auge econômico, impulsionado pelas riquezas provenientes do Brasil, como o ouro e os diamantes. Isso permitiu ao rei patrocinar grandiosas obras arquitetônicas e artísticas, inclusive a produção de azulejos em estilo rococó, influenciado pela arte europeia. O luxo e a ostentação eram uma maneira de demonstrar o poder e a influência da monarquia portuguesa.

Culturalmente, o século XVIII foi um período de transição, marcado pela influência do Iluminismo. As ideias iluministas começaram a questionar as estruturas de poder e promover um pensamento mais racional e científico, o que eventualmente impactaria a arte e a arquitetura. No entanto, antes que essas ideias se manifestassem plenamente, o gosto rococó ainda predominava, importado de outras cortes europeias, especialmente da França. A cultura portuguesa dessa época era marcada pela interação entre o tradicionalismo barroco e as influências rococós mais modernas. O mecenato artístico era significativo, e a produção de azulejos era uma expressão dessa riqueza cultural. O rococó enfatizava o prazer estético, a decoração elaborada e a leveza visual, destacando a sensibilidade da época por ambientes mais alegres e sofisticados. O Rococó, que emergiu no início do século XVIII, é um estilo artístico que reflete a estética e os valores da "cultura do salão". Esta cultura estava centrada em encontros sociais que promoviam a troca de ideias e a apreciação das artes. Aqui estão quatro aspectos que caracterizam essa relação e o papel da mulher culta na sociedade de Setecentos: 1. Espaços de Intelectualidade e Criatividade: Os salões eram espaços onde intelectuais, artistas e nobres se reuniam para discutir arte, filosofia e literatura. As mulheres, frequentemente as anfitriãs destes salões, desempenhavam um papel crucial na promoção de um ambiente de troca intelectual, onde ideias iluministas e estéticas rococós eram debatidas. 2. Empoderamento Feminino: As mulheres cultas, muitas vezes com educação formal e interesse nas artes, tornaram-se influentes na sociedade. Elas não apenas organizavam os salões, mas também eram patronas das artes, apoiando artistas e escritores. Esse papel ajudou a desafiar as normas sociais da época, permitindo que as mulheres tivessem uma voz mais ativa na cultura.

A Exuberância Decorativa Francesa O rococó português foi profundamente influenciado pela estética francesa, que dominava o gosto europeu no século XVIII. Os padrões de luxo, sofisticação e ornamentação derivados da corte francesa, como arabescos, volutas e assimetrias, moldaram a linguagem decorativa do rococó e foram incorporados às obras em Portugal.

O Clássico e o Mitológico Influências da Antiguidade Clássica, como temas mitológicos e alegorias, são comuns no rococó, mas reinterpretadas de forma mais leve e fantasiosa do que no barroco. Deuses, ninfas e cenas mitológicas são adaptados para criar composições decorativas refinadas.
