A visit to Vizcaya Villa
Where is it located ?
Where it is located ?
The Vizcaya Art Museum and Gardens is located in the neighborhood of Coconut Grove, in Miami, Florida. The state of Florida is located in the extreme south of the United States. It has a tropical and humid climate, or, in other words, it's paradise on Earth.
History of the Villa
A not so-american build...
Built between 1912 and 1922, this villa was the home of the businessman James Deering. The house was designed by the architects F.Burrall Hoffman and Iwahiko Tsumanuma. The owner of this house was extremely fascinated by the Italian regions of Veneto and Tuscany. Because of that, the architects created this design. Even the interior design was inspired by the old Renaissance Italian design, with lots of woodwork and fine paintings.
- This entire house's cost was $15 million.
- The villa was bought by the Miami-Dade County in 1952.
- The renovation of the villa costed $1 million.
- Named after the spanish province of Biscay, which gives it name to the bay where the villa is located.
The gardens
The total area of the gardens are 50 acres, from which 10 occuped by the Italian Renaissance gardens. The original rose garden was destroyed by the Great Miami Hurricane of 1926, but was rebuilt 100 years later.
- The garden was used as a set in several movies.
- The villa and its gardens have been placed in 2008 in the National Trust for National Preservation.
