Flatpack to Fashion: During this Textile Design unit, learners will foster an understanding of sustainable practices and the importance of repurposing materials. They will also experiment with a variety of decorative textile techniques.
Playground Design:Learners brainstorm to consider multiple alternatives and generate new ideas for a Playground.
Learners will inquire into synchronized swimming skills, collaborating in groups to develop and perform a routine. They will self-assess their performance and take risks to achieve new movements.
Learners will take on the role of a net games player representing the school team and explore how cooperation, use of space, and positional balance lead to improved team performance in competitive match play.
Learners act as investigators, instrumentalists and collaborators, applying piano, guitar, metallophones and percussion skills to group compositions and performances.

This unit is an Interdisciplinary Unit with English, where learners will utilise the spoken word poem that they wrote in English classes earlier in the year, using the message of their poem to create a visual representation.

Learners will set key goals based on their own skills and look to create a plan to create a synchronised swimming routine to be performed in front of their peers and teachers, to show a clear portfolio of their learning along the way. This will all capture their knowledge and understanding of their learning across the unit. Also they will be reflective of this process to ensure they can grow and improve.
Learners will embark on a creative journey of repurposing an IKEA bag into a unique and functional apron. They will explore design elements like style, functionality and materials while experimenting with techniques such as appliqué and embroidery to personalise their aprons.
Learners will develop a game for their client using scratch coding based on themes given in the class. They will also prepare a slide show for each criterion of the design cycle .They will also be asked to get feedback from other learners in their class, including their clients.
Many new types of playground equipment will also help improve coordination, strength, and critical thinking. Learners have been asked to design and make a model of a future playground.
Acting as athletes and analysts, learners will set SMART performance goals for match play. They will document their skill application during games and reflect on how teamwork, communication, and positional awareness impact their overall contribution.

After the science fair, we will shift our focus to imagining living in space. Watching Hollywood movies that cover this concept, such as The Martian, Interstellar and Passengers. Then, critiquing the accuracy and plausibility of a storyline would be very valuable.
Discuss the UN Sustainability goals and ask your child which one they have chosen to focus on, for their science fair work. You could have a chat about how your family and household could take action for some or all of these goals.
