Deliberate Practice for Deliberate Growth: Teacher Evaluation Systems for Continuous Instructional Improvement
OCPS 2024-2025 Instructional Evaluation System Evaluation Manual

index

The purpose of the Deliberate Practice model is to strengthen and enhance teacher expertise through planned activities, reflection, and collaboration. It involves setting personal goals, focused practice, feedback, observing and discussing teaching, and monitoring progress. The Marzano Center emphasizes that effective practice is essential: practicing correctly is more important than the amount of practice. Feedback is essential for growth, ensuring continuous improvement and expertise over time. As teachers improve their instructional strategies, student performance also improves. Instructional coaches and administrators provide objective, actionable feedback, helping teachers make meaningful improvements. Coaching cycles support this process by structuring practice, using data to share results, and determining next steps for improvement.
