Not everyone can be our friend online, so: we need to make sure whom we add as our friend
- Check the profiles of users who only contact us via the internet and we don`t know their true identity
- Be aware that there is about one-fifth of false profiles on Facebook
- tell adults (parents, teachers, educators) If we suspect someone on the Internet
- remembert that what we publish online cannot longer be deleted or changed
- use our portrait as a profile photo: it is also good to use a nickname if we are young users
- work actively with reporting cyberbullies on Facebook, Instagram and other social networks
- Arm your password, so we mustn't make easy passwords like 123456.
- write your passwords, but store them in a safe place where nobody can access them. never tell anyone your passwords.
- never repeat the same passwords everywhere
- use strong passwords (a combination of at least 8 characters (mix large and small characters, digits, and special characters).
Identity Theft: Identity theft happens when someone steals your personal information, like your name or email, to pretend to be you. Tips to Avoid It: Keep Personal Info Private: Never share personal details like your address or phone number online. Tips to Avoid It: Look for HTTPS: Only use websites that start with "https://"—the "s" means it’s secure. Check for a Lock Icon: Look for a small lock icon in the address bar, which means the site is safe. Avoid Sharing Personal Info: Don’t enter personal information on websites that seem unsaf

COPYRIGHT When someone has got an idea and gives this idea a specific form like, for example, a musical piece, a book or a drawing then the idea becomes a creation. That creation that started as an idea in someone’s mind, is considered intellectual property or copyright. Copyright protects original works created by an author, including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works, such as poetry, novels, movies, songs, computer software, and architecture. WHY IT IS NOT PERMITTED TO INFRINGE COPYRIGHT We all feel proud of ourselves when we create something like for example a composition, a drawing, a poem or even an article for our school newspaper. How would we feel if someone copies our creations without our permission? This is why copyright is so important. It enables us to prevent other people from copying and exploiting our work. Let’s remember that it is not permitted to ‘download’ songs, films and web programmes without getting the author’s permission first.
Some information found online aren’t reliable: they may contain false news or content that promotes harmful behaviour (for example anorexia comments and photos or pro suicide discussions). TIPS TO FIGHT FAKE NEWS: • always check at least three websites when searching for information. • books in school and in our local library are excellent sources of information. • ask teachers, parents, siblings to check what you’ve found • create with your teacher a list of trusted sites you can explore to find information
Cyberbullying is any form of bullying that takes place online deliberately and more than once. Cyberbullying differs from offline bullying in several ways:
- it takes place online, so cyberbullying can continue even when the young person is at home.
- Cyberbullying may involve unkind comments, pictures or memes being shared or targeted at one person.
- It might also come in the form of excluding someone from online groups.
WHAT WE CAN DO WHEN WE ARE LOOKING FOR AN IMAGE OR A VIDEO... If our teacher gives us a homework assignment at school we can download and use photos, lyrics and videos from the Internet for our project only if we don’t post our project to a public website. We can’t create a poem using parts of someone else’s poem and ‘upload’ it on the internet as our own because this is plagiarism. Plagiarism is when we pass off someone else's work or ideas as if they are our own. We don’t have the right to change the music or alter the lyrics and upload it on the internet. Even if we cite the source of the image, we are not allowed to use images that are protected by copyright. This is called copyright infringement; it is illegal and unethical and we can be sanctioned. Besides by violating copyright we deprive an author, a singer, a performer or even our favourite film actor of the right to get paid for his work or performance. DOES COPYRIGHT EXPIRE? Copyright does not last forever. It lasts from the date of the creation of the work to 70 years after the author’s death. Anything created before 1923 is no longer covered by copyright. When copyright expires we can freely use the works without asking for anyone’s permission but we don’t have to sign our own name as the author in the work we are using. We are simply allowed to use it freely. WHAT ISN'T PROTECTED BY COPYRIGHT Copyright does not protect news, simple facts and information that bears no originality. Mathematical formulas, procedures and different types of methods cannot be copyright protected either.
Be careful of strangers who contact you online. Sometimes, people you don’t know may try to befriend you or ask personal questions. They might pretend to be someone else to trick you into sharing private information or doing things that are not safe. This is called online grooming, and it can be very dangerous. Groomers often use fake names and pictures or say they have the same interests as you to gain your trust. Why is Online Grooming Dangerous? Online grooming is dangerous because it can lead to harmful situations. Groomers may try to get you to meet in person, which can put you in a risky situation. They may also pressure you to share personal information, pictures, or videos that can be used against you. This can make you feel scared or unsafe, and it is never your fault if someone tries to trick you. If someone you only know online makes you feel uncomfortable or asks you to do things you don’t want to do, talk to a trusted adult right away. They can help you understand what to do next. Stay safe, and remember: it’s okay to say no and block anyone who makes you uncomfortable!
