The series centres on events that took place in the childhoods of the main cast, in the fourth largest city in Hokkaido - Tomakomai. Throughout Erased, despite the main character living in the Chiba prefecture (the prefecture next to Tokyo), much of the anime focuses on their time in Hokkaido, Japan's most northern Island. Locations in the anime are directly taken from the real Tomakomai and the cold, biting weather of winter in Hokkaido is frequently on display in this series.
