COLLABORATIVE SURVEY ABOUT WELLBEING AT SCHOOL

The weight of the bags

The weight of a backpack can be a serious problem for the students, causing back pain and posture issues. Experts suggest that the backpack should not be more than 10-15% of the student’s weight to avoid back damage and reduce tiredness.

Our solution is to organize materials better and carry only necessary books. We would like to have some lockers and we could use them to leave our belongings, or substitute some of our books with a tablet.

Bullying

Bullying is one of the most popular issue in schools, over 65% of students in schools are, or were, victims of bullying. Bullies make fun of their victims, maybe for their appearance or the way they act and, in the worst case, even hurt them. Around 5% of victims of bullying tried to take off their own life at least one time.

Our solution is to speak with our teachers and not to react against the bully.

Afternoon hours

In the afternoon, from 2:30pm to 4:20pm, we could do "lighter" subjects because we are often tired and we can’t stay concentrate at that time. We also think that we could do more manual work with our classmates, so we can collaborate and decorate our classroom to make it more interesting.

We could ask the Principal to organise a schedule, where subjects such as Art, P.E., I.C.T. are in the afternoon so that even for us would be more motivating as we are more involved and we are requested a first-person participation.

Longer break

We think our first break should be longer, because we can barely rest and talk to our classmates or prepare for the next lesson so that the teachers find us prepared and ask questions.

Our solution is to speak with the Principal, explain the problem and ask him to add 10 minutes to break time and finish school 10 minutes later.

Collaboration

Students should collaborate with classmates, in pairs or groups, even if it is sometimes difficult.

We could ask our professors to leave us 10 minutes at the end of the lesson to "teach" each other.A way to improve collaboration is to add clubs, like reading club, sport club. Once a week, for two hours in the evening, clubs would become the place where students can vent a bit and relax.

Break time

To improve our school, we would like to create a small canteen or snack bar inside the building, to give students a quick and easy option since the cafeteria is far away. This would help save time and provide a comfortable space for breaks

Our solution is to ask the Principal to let students use the snack machines in the hallway inside the school (even if it's not like a proper canteen or snack bar).

Bigger gym

We would like to have a bigger gym. With a bigger gym we would like to have also some more material to use during Physical Education, so that we can play more games and exercises.

Our solutin is to enlarge the actual gym and to use the space outside (if the weather is mild!)

Better food

We would, like to improve the food of our canteen, making any dishes look more appetizing.

Our solution is to add some condiments and to give students a questonnaire about the menu, where they can choose the food they like.
