Indian Arranged Marriage History

An arranged marriage can take several months to years. The parents are the decison makers with every part of the process!

The common ages of arrangement go as follows: 18 year old for females and 21 year old for the males!

This form of marriage has taken place since the 4th century (301-400 AD). This is mostly done within the Hinduism religion.

Arranged Marriage: a marriage planned and agreed by the families or guardians of the couple concerned rather than by the couple themselves.

The Process

Typically with an arranged mariage, the older family members (the parents) look for prospects for the life partner for thier child in areas of a social circle, the workplace, or newspaper advertisment.

For the engagement seal, there is a clear announcement of the final arranged match. The act of exchanging rings differs between families

For the marriage portion, there is a consulting priest that sets the date and time for the muhurat (type of marrage) based off of the horoscope of the bride and groom.

When the prospect is found, the families from the girl and boy side agree to meet.

Once a match is finalized, the parents work together throug each part of the process.

One way this form of marriage efects lifespan devlopment is based on the autonomy of equal decison making in the household. Another action or mood that may arise overtime with a forced or arranged marriage is difficulty in trust, sleeping problems, and irritability, all of which are very negative effectors to ones development. The last common effector to this marriage type is because of the young age it takes place, it is lilkely to casue a great decline in school performance.

in the contemporary present form today, the couple has agreater say in their fate.

The couple is able to get to know each other time is not set in stone and is flexible, and in the end of getting to know each other the compatibility may not reach the engagement/marriage stage which is far normal now.
