U 20. veku počinje da se razvija turizam, posebno posle Drugog svetskog rata, kada je primorski turizam postao popularan. Sa svojim prelepim plažama, Soverato je postao tražena destinacija, posebno za italijanske turiste.

Nakon katastrofalnog zemljotresa 1783. koji je uništio drevno utvrđeno selo koje se sada zove Soverato Vecchia, stanovnici Soverata odlučili su da se nasele na brdu ispred sada uništenog centra grada. Jedna od prvih zgrada koja je izgrađena bila je crkva, koja je, kada je završena, posvećena Mariji della Pieta, u znak sećanja na drevnu matičnu crkvustarog sela. 1. Antičko i grčko poreklo Istorija Soverata datira iz antičkih vremena. Veruje se da su ovu oblast prvobitno naseljavali Grci kada su kolonizovali južnu Italiju. Uticaj Velike Grčke oblikovao je veći deo kulturnog i istorijskog razvoja Kalabrije, ostavljajući tragove u lokalnoj arhitekturi i tradiciji. 2. Grad je okružen brdima koji su karakteristični za Kalabriju. Ova brda ne samo da doprinose lepoti prizora, već i pružaju prirodne vidikovce na obalu i more. Odlike sredozemne klime su duga, topla i suva leta i blage i kišovite zime. U uslovima sredozemne klime preovlađuje sredozemna vegetacija: bor, čempres, hrast, lovor, smokva, pomorandža, limun, nar, vinova loza, masline... Ime grada potiče od reči Suberatum, što znači "zemlja hrasta plutnjaka". Danas su površine pod šumama ovog hrasta zamenjene plantažama maslina.

Soverato je grad na obali Jonskog mora. Nalazi se u Južnoj Italiji, na Kalabrijskom poluostrvu, Grad je podeljen u tri celine: - Antički Soverato - Soverato Vecchia - Soverato Superiore i - Soverato Marina
