This research could be useful to therapeutic services/programmes, there are a lot of mental health services, treatments and therapies that already exist as we know e.g. CBT, however, this can give a collective viewpoint of what is already out there, to feed into programmes. Looking at what has been beneficial in programmes/therapeutic services, could provide greater hope to people experiencing romantic heartbreak. Hope that they can begin to put the pieces of their lives back together.
Why Address it?
We don't know how protective factors; married vs non married relationships, support networks, previous mental health conditions collectively impact heartbreak and healing from a romantic breakup. We also don't know how different definitions of self growth following a breakup such as; resilience (O’Sullivan et al., 2019), self-concept (Slotter et al., 2009), self-improvement and moving on mentality, all link together. We don't knoow much in existing literature about the journey from poor mental health due to a breakup to self growth. How a person can put the pieces of their life and emotions back together again. What are the methods and what is involved in that journey? Limited research focuses on positive impacts following a relationship breakup, many focusing on the time directly after during the heartbreak phase, but not many following that 6 months-1 year after for example. Limited focus on different accounts of a breakup and how individuals manage to move on, heal and better themselves after experience of heartbreak.

Majority of existing literature in this area reflects on negative impacts of romantic breakups on mental health. Many studies focus on university students and use cross-sectional designs, focusing on how an indivdual feels directly after a breakup.
