What is WAAW?World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is a global campaign to raise awareness about antimicrobial resistance (AMR), highlighting the urgent need for responsible antimicrobial use. Overview of Antimicrobial Awareness Week: The week aims to educate the public, healthcare providers, and policymakers on the importance of responsible antimicrobial use. It promotes best practices to prevent AMR, reduce misuse of antibiotics, and encourage policies to safeguard these medicines for the future.
OBJECTIVES
Raising Awareness: Increasing public and professional understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a global health challenge. Promoting Best Practices: Encouraging healthcare providers to adopt effective stewardship practices to prevent misuse. Behavioral Change: Engaging the public to reduce demand and misuse of antimicrobials. International Collaboration: Strengthening partnerships to advance policies and practices that control AMR. These goals aim to minimize AMR impact on global health by fostering responsible usage and preventive strategies.
