IXL: Tech-Based
Manipulatives
Choice Boards

IXL offers differentiated curriculum approaches that allow students to be challenged based on current ability and understanding (IXL - Why IXL, n.d.). IXL aligns with Response to Intervention offering tier 1-3 support to meet students where they are at and increase engagement in the process. Students have access to this program inside and outside of the school through personalized logins.

Student choice boards can provide a new way for students to interact with concepts by providing options of familiar methods they can practice with. This could be technology-based by suggesting I-Ready, Splash Learn, IXL, etc. Or “use the tic-tac-toe” method, skip counting, or write a word problem.

Students use manipulatives such as whiteboards and markers, magnets, shapes, counters, graphs, clocks, etc. to move materials around and interact with the content in a physical way.

Movement & Music
Tech-Based

Learning through movement videos are offered on YouTube that combine math fact fluency with exercises and dances to keep the students motivated and moving as they review concepts and skills. This can be shared with parents for home use. These can be modified to show the product of 2x4 by doing that many jumping jacks if technology is unavailable.

Splash Learn utilizes game-like features to engage students in specific lessons and content areas. This process can be completed at home or in school like I-Ready and IXL and can be tailored to meet individual needs. Splash Learn is a free program where students can increase skill and ability as well as provide teachers with another resource for data collection. Increased technology can provide multiple avenues for students to explore new content that sparks their interest allowing for an authentic learning experience tailored to them.

Activities that promote STEM and independent learning opportunities for students to complete at the beginning of each topic. Throughout, students are provided opportunities to add to their project seeking new methods of approach as they conclude the daily lessons and acquire additional information. These can be independent practice or collaborative learning experiences to enhance student engagement and offer additional practice outside of worksheets and workbooks. Incorporating these learning activities offers student selection and choice as each topic comes with two to three activities to choose from. Allowing them to seek outside the classroom support and conduct additional research to solve real world problems.

Real-World Scenarios
Cultural Highlight

Cultural Highlight: Mathematicians across cultures. Each week features a new mathematician for students to learn about from all over the world (Ferlazzo, 2024). This will highlight contributions made by different cultures to the field of math and who have shaped what we learn about today. Giving students the chance to see various cultures provide contributions to a foundational subject and provide relevance and inspiration to learning (Ferlazzo, 2024).

Real-world scenarios being a large part of the learning process in addition to connecting their own lives and identities into the content can assist with promoting cultural diversity in the classroom (Ferlazzo, 2024). Adding opportunities to insert themselves, their friends, their families, and their hobbies/interests into the content can boost engagement and allow for a more welcoming learning experience and environment (Ferlazzo, 2024).

I-Ready
Tech-Based

Project-Based Learning: Learning through collaboration and problem solving occurs throughout the curriculum map as students apply real world concepts to the skills they are mastering. Pairing and grouping students based on current ability, allows for students the chance to learn from one another, discuss strategies, and offer various skill sets to solve problems presented (Zhang et al., 2023).

I-Ready is a self-directed and self-paced learning program that students have access to during computer time every Monday and Wednesday. This is a technology-based learning program purchased by the school that provides students with additional support in skills they have yet to master as well as challenges students with the next level material when they are ready.
