Women above the age of 60 with Hypertension
Men above the age of 60 with Hypertension
How it happens
- The walls of the vessels in the heart become thickened and stiff over time - The ventricles then pump the blood harder to get it out of the heart and into the arteries
Structures affected
- Walls of arteries and vessels carrying blood away from the heart to other areas of the body
Function affected
- Damages and Weakenes Artieries and Vessels interacting with the heart, which then affects others throughout the body
Who is affected
- Affects both men and women of all ages- Mainly affects men and women ages 60 and up
- What is Hypertension:
- When the pressure in your blood vessels becomes too high
What causes Hypertension
Factors affecting Hypertension:Diet, Family History, Age, Medications
As the walls of the artieries and vessels carrying the blood away from your heart thicken due to factors, the ventricles pump harder, creating the blood to flow faster, with more force, causing hypertension.
Common Medications Used to Treat Hypertension
ACE Inhibitors: Relax Blood Vessels and Prevent Kidney Disease
- Lisinopril
- Benazepril
- Beta-Blockers: lower heart rate and blood pressure
- Atenolol
- Propranolol
