Questions to Consider
Take a moment to consider your own experiences in nature, whether it is in the remote wilderness of the Rocky Mountains, or the serenity of your local community garden.
CONTINUE
Did any of your answers vary? For example, did you choose a short gardening activity for stress relief and a brisk walk in the park for a pick-me-up? If so, imagine how this also may change across individuals.
CONTINUE
Understanding which types of nature experiences work “best” can be a complicated question. It can depend on a number of factors—including what outcome you are seeking (e.g., improved stress recovery, changes in mood, better focus), as well as individual ability and preference (e.g., available greenspace, physical ability).
CONTINUE
Research is ongoing in identifying which nature experiences work “best” for different outcomes. You will learn about current best practices, which are constantly evolving as we learn more. You will also practice applying these concepts to the creation of your own nature spaces through ideas about building items that help bring nature to you or by cultivating the green spaces that are nearby.
Thank you!
- What types of experiences in nature make you the happiest?
- What makes you feel the most calm and stress-free?
- What type of nature experience would you choose if you needed a quick pick-me-up in the middle of the day to help you refocus?
