Welcome Back

New Year New Goals

"Teaching is the profession that teaches all the other professions." - Unknown

summary

As the principal, I am thrilled to welcome our dedicated teachers and support staff back for another exciting school year. This year, we embark on a journey focused on promoting and supporting human flourishing within our school community. Based on insights presented from our recent “Community Snapshot Infographic,” Our goals reflect our commitment to understanding our students and their unique needs, specifically regarding challenges such as dyslexia and dysgraphia, which are prevalent among our student population.

Through the Community Snapshot project, I learned a lot about the students at our school and what they need. Inclusion, support, and active participation between families and instructors are important in our community. It is important that we recognize the problems that some of our students have, like dyslexia, which can make it hard to understand what they read, and dysgraphia, which makes it hard to express yourself in writing. The results showed how important it is to have a community-centered approach to education, where parents are involved and all students feel welcome. Getting families involved in school not only helps students do better in school, but it also makes the bonds between us stronger. By working together with families, we can build a strong support system that helps students learn outside of school.

• Read to your kids or listen to audiobooks to help them learn how lines are put together and how to spell words correctly (Kids Can’t Wait, n.d.). • For reading aloud, use assistive technology like the Kindle, iPad, or Google's Nexus computer (Kids Can’t Wait, n.d.)..

Data Inform Decisions

Data-driven decision making will be important in our strategies, particularly for the dyslexic community. We will use surveys, performance tracking, and technology resources to gather insights and adapt our approaches to meet the needs of students with dyslexia. Regular analysis will help us adjust teaching methods and provide necessary resources for academic and personal success.
• See movies or news stories about the book or its material to put it in context (Kids Can’t Wait, n.d.).. • Give students who are dyslexic or having trouble reading extra time to finish their reading tasks (Kids Can’t Wait, n.d.)..
Give kids class schedules ahead of time to help them get ready for the school year (Kids Can’t Wait, n.d.).. • For better reading, read books with bigger fonts (Kids Can’t Wait, n.d.).. • For reading time on your own, suggest books that are shorter and less thick (Kids Can’t Wait, n.d.)..

To reach our goals, we will use a variety of best research based practice methods based on studies that have been shown to work well with families. Here are some foundational strategies that will be implemented across all teacher roles:

Research-Based Practices

Tailored Communication:
Regular Collaborative Meetings:
Inclusive Decision-Making:
Community Partnerships:

As we strive to break down barriers to family engagement, it is crucial to recognize that a one-size-fits-all approach will not suffice. We must adopt innovative strategies tailored to the unique challenges families encounter. Here are practical steps we can take:

Differentiated Strategies

Flexible meeting time
Childcare Support
Feedback Suggestion
Cultural Training

Inclusivity in our classrooms is very important. We must recognize and accommodate diverse learning styles and needs, notably for students with dyslexia. To promote inclusive education, we will implement the following strategies: (Drexel University School of Education, 2024)

Promoting Inclusivity

Getting to know our students
Promoting Student Interaction
Including a variety of learning materials
Understanding how our students learn
Create a positive learning environment

This year, our main goal is to help everyone in our school community thrive, especially our dyslexic students, who often face special obstacles in their educational path. According to new study, there are five key areas of human flourishing: the psychological, the social, the contemplative, the physical, and the emotional. By making sure that our methods are in line with these areas, we not only improve the learning setting as a whole, but we also build an environment that supports all of our students' needs (Ten Strategies to Promote Student Flourishing, n.d.).

Promoting Human Flourishing

Maintain Community
Provide opportunities for prohress
Acknowledge physical needs
Encourage connections to personal values and purpose
Take care of ourselves
Honor emotions
This year, we are committed to two primary goals: engaging families to student learning, promoting an inclusive learning environment, and cultivating a positive school ethos and culture. To achieve these goals, we have identified two overarching strategies that will guide our communication with stakeholders and encourage their active involvement.

Setting Compliant, Realistic, and Measurable Goals SMART Goals: This year, we will adopt the SMART framework when developing goals. Each goal will be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. For our dyslexic community, this means we will fine-tune our approaches, ensuring that our teaching methods and support systems are tailored to meet individual needs. For example, if we aim to enhance reading proficiency, we will define clear benchmarks to track progress throughout the year..

Monitoring Success Through Feedback To monitor our progress toward these goals, we will implement consistent tracking methods and evaluations. Regularly assessing our strategies will enable us to glean insights on what works and what needs adjustment. A feedback mechanism will be instituted, allowing all stakeholders to share their thoughts openly and constructively.
