In a total task presentation, instruction occurs on each step of a task analysis during each session.

Forward Chaining

Forward chaining is a slow format for teaching a task analysis in which the learner masters the first step in a sequence before proceeding to instruction, one step at a time, on the remaining steps.

Backward Chaining

Backward chaining is a slow format for teaching a task analysis in which the learner first masters the final step in a sequence and then learns the remaining steps, one at a time, from the final step to the first.

Acquisition

Acquisition is the initial phase of learning during which learners acquire new skills.

Fluency
