Every thing is made up of atoms. Atoms are considered the fundamental units of matter, because one atom of an element is the smallest thing that will act like that element (an atom of gold acts like gold). Similarly Cells are considered to be the fundamental units of life, because they are the smallest parts that show the characteristics of life (a muscle cell is alive and contracts like a muscle).

In Biology we have lots of differnt organism, so we have to come up with a way to organize them all. Taxonomy is the science conscerned with naming and organizing organsims. In taxonomy, we group organisms based on how similar or related we believe them to be.
When you are done reading, click the arrow here to move on

Taxonomy

The biggest groups, that have the most different types of organisms are called Domains. Species are the most specific groups.

Adenisine Triphosphate, ATP, is an important molecule in our cells. It is a Nucleic Acid, but is only 1 nucleotide long. ATP works like a little battery that transports energy around the cell and allows different cellular machines to access the energy. ATP is the charged up version of the battery. When it releases the energy, it also loses one of the phosphates and become Adenosine diphosphate (ADP).

Enzymes are proteins that act as little machines to speed up chemical reactions. Enzyms work by lowering the amount of energy it takes for the reaction to happen. Pretty much every reaction in your body uses 1 or more enzyems, so a cell can control what reactions happen based on what enzymes the cell makes.
