Chapter 3: Luffy and Koby sail to an island with a Marine base. They find a swordsman named Zoro who hunts pirates. Zoro is being held captive by the marines. Luffy asks Zoro to join his crew, but the pirate hunter declines. Zoro tells him about his dreams of becoming the strongest swordsman in the world. Chapter 4: Luffy decides to get Zoro's swords back from the marines to try and convince him to join his crew. Luffy gets the swords back but has upset Captain Morgan.

Climax

Chapter 5: Morgan and his soldiers go to kill Zoro and Koby, while Luffy retrieves Zoro's swords. Zoro is thinking about how he cannot die at a place like this, he then remembers the promise he made to his childhood friend, Kuina. Just before Zoro and Koby are shot, however, Luffy gets in the way, protecting the pair from all the bullets. Zoro realizes that, if he wants to live, he has no choice and tells Luffy that he will join him.

Falling Action

Chapter 6: Luffy frees Zoro and a fight ensues. Luffy and Zoro quickly defeat most of the marines. Captain Morgan's son attempts to take Koby hostage and distracts Luffy. Captain Morgan goes to kill Luffy but is stopped by Zoro. Luffy and Zoro go on to defeat Captain Morgan and the rest of the marines.

Resolution

Chapter 7: Captain Morgan's Marines are grateful to Luffy for defeating Morgan and ridding them of his tyranny. They allow Luffy and Zoro to leave peacefully. Koby, however, does not accompany them. This causes the soldiers to ask if he is one of them or not. To prove that Koby is not their friend, Luffy provokes him until he punches him. Koby is then allowed to stay with the marines. After the pirates leave, Koby asks to join the Marines, and is allowed in. Koby and the Marines salute Luffy and Zoro as they set off.

Exposition

Chapter 1: We meet kid Luffy (main protagonist) with his role model Shanks. Luffy's dream is to become a pirate. We see luffy eat the Gomu Gomu no Mi. Luffy is taken hostage by mountain bandits and saved by Shanks and his pirate crew. Shanks gives Luffy his straw hat and tells him to become a strong pirate and meet him out on the seas one day. Fastforward to present day and we see Luffy setting sail to fullfill his dream of becoming the Pirate King. Chapter 2: Luffy meets Koby (a boy who wants to become a marine) on an island and saves him from the pirate Iron-Mace Alvida. Luffy helps Koby get the courage to stand up to Alivda and they leave the island together.

Rising Action Defined

Chapters 3-4

The rising action is the lead up to the climax of the story. The plot thickens and conflicts begin to arise. We learn new things about characters and learn more about different conflicts within the story.

The exposition sets up the story. It tells the reader the setting, sets the tone, and introduces characters. (world building)

Climax

Chapter 5

The Climax is the "moment of truth" or the most intense/emotional part of the story. At the climax the protagonist usually learn new information, acts on new information, or accepts the reality of information given to them throughout the previoius parts of the story. In this moment a big decision is usually made or a path is taken that will affect the rest of the story.

Falling Action

Chapter 6

The falling action is the part the bridges the gap between the climax and the resolution of the story. These are the events that take place soon after the climax.

Resolution

Chapter 7

The resolution of a story is how the story ends. We see the action get wrapped up and the story concludes.
