OBJECTIVE
By the end of the training, high school faculty will be able to integrate at least one artificial intelligence tool into their curriculum, in alignment with the School Librarian Certificate Standards and the Texas School Library Programs Standards and Guidelines. They will do this by making targeted adjustments to the current curriculum and incorporating AI where it is beneficial, with full implementation by the start of the following school year.
LESSON CONTENT
Lesson Overview: Exploring Artificial Intelligence in Education
Introduction: We’ll start by looking at how AI is already a part of our everyday lives and look at some real-world examples, highlighting how AI is impacting various fields. AI in Education: After the introduction, we’ll watch a short video that explores the role of AI in the classroom as a tool to support teachers and enhance teaching and learning. Activity: Faculty members will dive deeper by researching a specific AI-related topic relevant to education. Each group will create a short presentation to share their findings, giving everyone practical insights into how AI can be used effectively in the classroom. Reflection and Assessment: To wrap up, each teacher will write a brief paragraph on how they plan to incorporate AI into their own teaching. This reflective piece will help assess whether the learning objectives have been met and provide teachers with a starting point for integrating AI in meaningful ways.
STANDARDS
Standard I. Learner-Centered Teaching and Learning:The certified school librarian is an educational leader who promotes the integration of curriculum, resources, and teaching strategies to ensure the success of all students as influential creators and users of ideas and information, enabling them to become lifelong learners. Accordingly, the certified school librarian must be able to do the following activities with an understanding and valuation of their importance: (5) work collaboratively with faculty to provide students with opportunities to assume responsibility for planning and engaging in independent learning
Standards Required for the School Library CertificatE
Instructional Leadership (Dimension 6.1): The lesson promotes the librarian's role as a collaborator and instructional leader by emphasizing guided inquiry in learning. Educators are taught how to integrate library resources effectively into AI-related inquiry projects, fostering critical thinking and information literacy. By working with teachers to co-design lessons and promote inquiry-based learning, the librarian supports and leads instruction within the school community. Information and Digital Literacy (Dimension 6.2): The lesson plan focuses on helping educators guide students in developing information literacy, especially in evaluating the credibility of digital sources and understanding ethical considerations in AI. Librarians provide digital research tools, resources, and strategies for ethical use, promoting information and digital literacy skills, which are crucial in today's technology-driven world.

Identify Your Inquiry Question
Discuss the article with your group and decide on one specific question to explore further.
GATHER
inquiry and ChatGPT Experiment
Groups will gather additional information to answer their question using credible sources. Then, they try ChatGPT to see how it answers their question and compare the findings.
CREATE
presentation summary
Each group will make a simple, one-slide presentation summarizing their question, findings, and any ethical considerations to share with the class. .
