Caroline Herscel nacque nel 1750 e morì nel 1848, in una famiglia di lavoratori. All'età di dieci anni era stata colpita dalla febbre tifoide, ma si riprese.A ventun' anni andò in Inghilterra, nel 1787 le venne assegnato un salario per essere l'assistente del fratello. Infine nel 1838 divenne membro della Royal Irish Accademy.
