Strengths & Areas for Growth
Strengths & Areas for Growth | Cryferdau a Meysydd Datblygu
- Understanding Strengths & Areas for Growth
- Growth Mindset
- Passions & Talents
Strength does not come from winning. Your struggles develop your strengths. When you go through hardships and decide not to surrender, that is strength.
Arnold Schwarzenegger
Understanding Strengths & Weaknesses
- In the movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle the characters have different but complimentary strengths and weaknesses.
- If you touched your left pec, what strength would appear for you?
Strengths & Weaknesses
Activity 1:
This activity will help you to explore different strengths and weaknesses and how they manifest in real life.
- You will be given a card with a strength and a weakness.
- In pairs, you will play out a scenario, and try to embody the card.
- Your partner must guess what your strengths and weaknesses are.
Time to reflect...
- In the roleplay scenario, how hard was it to put yourself in the mindset of those strengths and weaknesses?
- Did you recognise yourself in any of the scenarios?
Growth Mindset vs Fixed Mindset
- A growth mindset encourages you to learn from failures and to improve every day.
- A fixed mindset believes "you've either got it or you haven't".
- Consider why having a growth mindset can be helpful in your career and your learning.
Try, Try, Try Again
Activity 2:
This activity explores how a Growth Mindset can help to complete tasks that might initially seem difficult or even impossible.
- You will be put into groups and given sheets of paper and some tape.
- You will have 5 minutes to build the tallest tower possible.
- After the time is up, you will reflect on what you could have done better, and what skills or resources could help you.
- Based on your reflections, you can try again and see if you can beat your record.
Time to reflect...
- Why do you think employers value a growth mindset?
- How do you think adopting a growth mindset might be useful in real-life situations?
Passions and Talents
- Everyone has passions and talents that are unique to them.
- These might not be immediately obvious for us to identify, and sometimes, having a talent or a passion can feel like an embarrassing thing to admit.
- But understanding your passions can help you to identify career opportunities that align with your interests, so that you can hone your talents in these areas.
Passion Stations
Activity 3:
In this activity, we'll be creating a time capsule, full of items specific to the cultural and social identities of everyone in the group.
- You will be asked to visit five different stations around the room, completing a challenge in each one.
- There will be a leaderboard and a space for you to rank your enjoyment at each station, to help see if you have talent or passion in any of these areas.
Time to reflect...
- What is one thing you learned today that you didn’t know before?
- How can you use this information to make informed decisions about yourself and in your life?
