5.2.2 Learn and Build an interior
Creating an interiorBoolean modifier Bevel modifier
Today's Agenda
making a room!
Today, we're...
- Create the floor: Open Blender and, using the default cube, create a flat floor for your living room. Use the Scale tool to squash the cube by pulling the blue arrow downward.
- Create the wall: For walls, duplicate the floor by going to the Object menu and clicking on Duplicate under it.
- Arrange the duplicated floor in such a way that it is at a right angle to the floor.
- Now, duplicate this wall to create the second wall of the room.
- You now need to look to the top right of your screen to Scene Collection. Double press the different objects in your scene, erase what's there and type to rename them accordingly "i.e. Wall 1, Wall 2, Floor". This important to do before you move on.
The Process
- To create a window: Make a long rectangular cube. Move the cube to intersect the wall in the spot you want a window.
- Rename the cube "window" in the outline window.
- Add a Boolean modifier to the wall that you have selected. This tool helps you perform complex operations on 3D objects. On the right side of your screen, press the blue wrench to Add Modifier, select Boolean under the Generate category.
- Once you have the Boolean modifier open for your wall, make sure Difference is selected. Press the dropper icon where it says Object to observe your mouse tip change to a dropper. Press the cuboid that will be your window and make sure it is the correct name and object.
- In the Scene Collection segment at the top right of your screen, you can see the object that you renamed Window and an eye-shaped icon beside it. Press on the eye. Once you press on it, you will observe that the cuboid disappears, resulting in an open space that appears like a window. This is how you can create a simple window.
The Process
- Add the couch: Make a cube. Scale it into a cuboid for the base of the couch by selecting the Scale tool and pressing and dragging the colored arrows. Then position it on the floor using the Move tool by pressing and dragging the colored arrows. Be sure to orbit around your room with your middle mousewheel button to see from all sides that the placement of the cuboid is correct.
- Add another cube for the armrest of the couch. Scale and shape it to the appropriate size to fit your base. Remember to use your colored arrows in order to position it properly along the base of the couch. Take a look from all possible sides by orbiting with your middle mouse-wheel button to ensure there are no gaps between the base of the couch and the arm of the couch. Repeat the process for the other armrest as well.
- A backrest, is required for the couch, so duplicate the base of the couch and place it on the couch so that it becomes the backrest of the couch. Using the colored arrows will help you as you work. Observe the video to understand how you can do it.
- Once the backrest is placed and everything is aligned as best as possible, please select all the couch pieces and join them to become one big unit. Under the Object menu at the top of your screen, you will find a Join feature. Make sure you have it just as you like it before you join.
The Process
- Add a TV: Add a cube and resize it into a television using the Scale tool and its colored arrows.
- Once you have created the shape, position it on the wall opposite the couch. You can use the Move tool and its colored arrows to position it wherever you like in the scene. Make sure that the position is correct from all angles by orbiting around your room pressing your middle mouse-wheel button.
- smooth out the couch using the bevel tool, which allows you to create rounded corners. If something has a bevel, this means its edge is not perpendicular to, or meeting at a 90 degree/right angle with, the faces of the object.
- color the couch
- color the walls and flooring
- add texture to the television
- add light and adjust the intensity
- Submit a screen shot of your room to the assigment in edio, and/or the Padlet!
