Gender Stereotypes
Intersectionality
is social and cultural, and refers to the roles, behaviours, activities, attributes, and norms that a given society at a given time considers appropriate for men and women, girls, boys and people with other gender identities.
policies, laws, programmes and practices are those which take into account the particularities of the lives of women, men, girls, and boys using a gender analysis, and aim to eliminate inequalities and promote an equal distribution of resources.
Gender Sensitive
refer to prejudiced thoughts and/or actions based on assumptions of inequality between genders.
refers to the systematic consideration of the different conditions, situations, and needs of women, men, girls, and boys in any policy or action, and the (re)organization, improvement, development, and evaluation of policy processes so that a gender equality perspective is incorporated at all levels and all stages. In other words, by assessing the implications of any planned action for women, men, girls, and boys, their concerns and experiences can be made integral to the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of laws, policies, and programmes, across sectors and social spheres, so that all people benefit equally and gender inequality is not perpetuated or reinforced.
refers to the ways that gender expectations and other social markers, such as ethno-religious background, age, social class, sexual orientation, marital status, race, ethnicity, and disability, etc. place people in different positions of power and privilege, discrimination, and exclusion
Sex
is biological and biochemical, and refers to characteristics such as chromosomes, hormonal make-up, reproductive organs, and other biological differences.
