Hygrometer
Wet and dry bulb thermometer
hygrometer
An hygrometer is composed by two different thermometer:
- dry bulb thermometer
- wet bulb thermometer
HISTORy
When it was invented?
Most developed electronics hygrometers was invented
20th century
William Cullen and Joseph Black introduced the wet and dry bulb hygrometer
1755
Francesco Folli developed a more pratical version of hygrometer
1600s
Da Vinci invented first rudimental hygrometer
1480
how it works?
Dry bulb
As I said hygrometer is composed by dry and wet bulb. Dry bulb simply measures ambient air temperature in degrees Celsius, degrees Fahrenheit or Kelvin.
wet bulb
It consists in a bulb wrapped into a moist cloth. As water evaporates from the cloth, it cools the thermometer bulb, resulting in a lower temperature reading than that of the dry bulb thermometer
METEREOLOGY
In Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Hygrometer is used to monitor indoor humidity levels.
In research related to human comfort, double bulb hygrometers help evaluate how temperature and humidity interact to affect thermal comfort levels in indoor environments.
APPLICATIONS
COMFORT STUDIES
Farmers use double bulb hygrometers to assess humidity conditions for crop management. Understanding humidity levels helps in irrigation planning and frost protection strategies
AGRICULTURE
HVAC
Double bulb hygrometers are extensively used in meteorology for measuring atmospheric humidity. They help in weather forecasting by providing essential data on moisture levels in the air
