where it started...

Halloween has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, celebrated over 2000 years ago in what Ireland, and United Kingdom, and northern France. The Celts marked Novemeber 1 as the start of their new year, seeing it as the end of harvest season and beginnning of winter, often associtated with death and darkness

The night before October 31, was thought to be a time when the boundaries between the living and the dead became blurred. This allowed spirits to roam the earth. To protect themselves the celts lit bonfires and wore costumes made of animals skins to ward off evil spirits
