Lincoln was directed by Steven Spielberg and released in November 2012. It stars Daniel Day-Lewis as Abraham Lincoln, with Sally Field and Tommy Lee Jones in supporting roles. The film emphasizes Lincoln's final months as president during the end of the Civil War and his efforts to abolish slavery. Born on February 12, 1809, and assassinated on April 15, 1865, Lincoln served as the 16th president of the U.S. His major achievement was the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. Historian Ronald White praises the film for its accuracy.

1. This document is a press article written by Mike Hale in 2014, and published in the New York Times. It deals with the TV series entitled "Peaky Blinders". 2. It was created by Steve Knight and broadcast on BBC1 and Netflix. 3. The term "Peaky Blinders" refers to peaked caps worn by gang members who had razor blades sewn into the seams. 4. The action is set in the early 20th century; in Birmingham, England after the First World War. The show includes references to real-life people or events (the famous gang members, the Irish Republican Army, Communist union organizers) but also includes fictionalized elements (gang warfare, the protagonist Tommy Shelby and his opponent Campbell). 5. The author thinks that the show is thematically rich (“he overstuffs ‘Peaky Blinders’”; “There’s lots of plot”) & that the story is compelling (“beautiful moodiness”) thanks to the interpretation of the actor C. Murphy in the role of the main protagonist Tommy Shelby.

The real Peaky Blinders: The gangsters in the series wear the classic Peaky Blinder outfit, indicating that the series may portray them accurately. The peaked hat is part of this outfit. However, the real Peaky Blinders do not have any weapons and seem to be part of the working-class while the protagonist Thomas Shelby embodies the upper-class.

Controversy due to the fact that no nation had the right to claim this territory. => First choice U.N. flag but finally = American flag Ryan Gosling and Alfred Worden's opinion: Both men defended the choice of the filmmaker not to include the American flag. To justify this omission, they explain the focus is on Neil Armstrong's achievement rather than on American success.

This TV report discusses the film First Man and the controversy over the absence of the American flag. Ryan Gosling, who plays Neil Armstrong, and astronaut Alfred Worden, another astronaut, explain the decision. In 1969, Armstrong became the first person to set foot on the moon, and there was a debate over the American flag. NASA initially considered using the U.N. Dorian Gray is based on Oscar Wilde's 1890 novel. I think Wilde himself would have enjoyed this version directed by Oliver Parker. It stars Ben Barnes as Dorian Gray and Colin Firth as Lord Henry Wotton. The film tells the story of Dorian, a handsome and wealthy young man who meets a talented painter, Basil Hallward (Ben Chaplin), and the corrupt Lord Wotton. Basil paints Dorian's portrait, capturing his youth and beauty. This leads Dorian to make a deal with the devil and offer his soul in exchange for eternal youth. While he remains young, his portrait takes on all his sins and ages. Is there any way out as the painting gets uglier and uglier? This film took my breath away. It is an unforgettable tale that I highly recommend because of the setting, costumes, and dark atmosphere. The leading actors are excellent, particularly Colin Firth, who is terrific, and the supporting actors are also brilliant. The film is captivating, even if it can be slow at times, but the end is tense and exciting and takes your breath away.

The film is rather confusing / long / slow / boring. The cast is weak / awful / unconvincing. The plot is absolutely thrilling/ exciting/fascinating/ touching/romantic/surprising. It has a tragic/ surprising/ unexpected /dramatic ending. Don't miss it! It is well worth seeing! It is highly entertaining! It is certainly at the top of my list of great movies. I'm afraid this film is a complete waste of time and money. The plot is too conventional / not original at all. The ending is predictable.

MADONNA on BLOND AMBITION (2017)

Madonna has expressed that she is less than excited about the upcoming biopic titled, Blond Ambition. This debut script for Elyse Hollander centers around a pop star who hasn’t given the nod of approval. The biopic will center around her difficulties creating her first album in New York. Madonna expressed her lack of enthusiasm about the film on Instagram. She stated that she is the only person who could tell her story, referring to people who try as a “charlatan and a fool.”According to the pop star, the script is all lies. The iconic star says that no one knows what she knows or what she has seen. She continued to say that instant gratification without work is a disease in society. Despite Madonna’s dissatisfaction, the Universal Studios has picked up the movie. The film was on the 2016 Black List, a list of the best-unproduced screenplays in Hollywood.

BOB DYLAN on I’M NOT THERE (2012)

“These so-called connoisseurs of Bob Dylan music, I don’t feel they know a thing or have any inkling of who I am or what I’m about,” Dylan himself told an interviewer in 2012. The movie based on Bob Dylan’s life, I’m Not There, has accuracy issues. One significant difference that the film has with real life is Dylan’s 1966 motorcycle accident. The film inaccurately portrays the crash as fatal. Another inaccuracy is Dylan becoming a preacher. The director of Bob Dylan’s biopic, Todd Haynes, has never met Bob Dylan.

Lincoln biographer Ronald White lauds the accuracy of Daniel Day-Lewis' depiction of the 16th president.

"I was very pleased with Daniel Day-Lewis' depiction of Lincoln. He does a delicate balance between the homely Lincoln and the high Lincoln of the second inaugural address. He walks like Lincoln, the way he puts his feet down one at a time. He talks like Lincoln — not the baritone voice of Disneyland, but the high tenor voice. Daniel Day-Lewis studied Lincoln intensely, and what comes out is a very accurate depiction of the spirit of the man." https://www.npr.org/2012/11/22/165671751/we-ask-a-historian-just-how-accurate-is-lincoln

WINNIE MANDELA on WINNIE (2011)

Winnie Mandela has nothing against Jennifer Hudson, who played her in Winnie, the 2011 big-screen adaptation of Annè Marié du Preez Bezdrob's biography, Winnie Mandela: A Life. But she had a point when she complained to CNN that she felt it was irresponsible of the filmmakers to not consult her on the project. “I have absolutely nothing against Jennifer, but I have everything against the movie itself,” she said. “I was not consulted. I am still alive. And I think that it is total disrespect to come to South Africa, make a movie about my struggle, and call that movie some translation of ‘The Romantic Life of Winnie Mandela.’ I think it is an insult. I don’t know what would be romantic in our bitter struggle.”

Mark Zuckerberg on The Social Network (2010)

There aren’t a lot of college students whose exploits would be interesting enough to sustain a two-hour running time. But Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg wasn’t your typical co-ed1. […] In an interview with 60 Minutes, he noted that: “It’s pretty interesting to see what parts they got right and what parts they got wrong. I think they got every single T-shirt they had the Mark Zuckerberg character wear right; I think I own all those T-shirts. And they got the sandals right and all that. But… there are hugely basic things that they got wrong. [They] made it seem like my whole motivation for building Facebook was so I could get girls, right? And they completely left out my girlfriend, whom I’ve been dating since before I started Facebook.” Source: mentalfloss.com (2017) 1. Schoolmate
