The Iron Dominion
Begin your westward adventure on a high-speed roller coaster with weathered wooden textures and an artificial horse at the front, representing the horse-drawn carriage. Periodic sounds of wagon wheels creaking and horses neighing take guests back in time to the Cumberland Road: a well-maintained national road, in contrast to the typical rough dirt roads of that time The carriage will plunge into a tunnel with props that create an immersive landscape experience involving dense forests, rugged mountain paths, and vast farmlands. This represents the vast journey settlers took westward across the first federally funded road, which connected distant parts of the country, stimulated interstate commerce, and made westward expansion much easier.

It is the era of mass-produced grain! With the advent of the mechanical reaper, grains and beans are more easily farmable with less labor and increased speed. Less labor costs for farming and the wide availability of grain means that grain is more inexpensive than ever. Our thus affordable menu contains items primarily consisting of grains and beans, reflecting the primary sustenance of people in the South.

Fulton's Visionaries
Tourists are welcome to keep an Inventor’s Log, jotting down their ideas, kind of like the journals Francis Cabot Lowell himself might have kept as he dreamed up his groundbreaking ideas. While meeting him, visitors can jot down ideas for inventions they have or quickly sketch some designs of cool, unique machinery, thus looking at the world around them through an inventor's eye. This activity invites them into their creativity while they are engaging in real-world problems and solutions. At the end of this activity, students will be able to share their Inventor's Logs with Lowell by showing him what they've found out and what ideas they've encountered. Throughout the process, tourists will learn how Lowell's vision changed American industry because he introduced mechanized textile production and created a fully integrated factory system. By keeping spinning and weaving under the same roof, Lowell revolutionized manufacturing to make it faster and more efficient while creating steady jobs in a time of rapid change. His inventions also made it possible to have planned factory towns where the workers lived, learned, and develop a community centered around the mills, thus restructuring life and workplace. This activity allows tourists to see how one man's creativity and dedication to his work can reshape an entire industry and society.
Threads of Time
Welcome to Threads of Time, a Virtual Reality Experience: Visitors will be submersed into the Threads of Time experience with an opening virtual reality scene that drops them in the middle of a whirring 1830s Lowell Mill textile factory. Facing the cacophony and the sights of an industrial mill, full of rows of spinning machines, and looms powered by the innovations of the Lowell Mills, visitors will be able to see and experience the first pioneering system to bring large-scale textile production to America. The mill hums with the activity of machinery, and the workforce is made up of "mill girls."In the course of the tour, tourists will closely observe all workstations and learn each step of textile production, from carding cotton to weaving fabric. This will provide them with a glimpse into the structured layout of the factory and division of labor that enabled the Lowell Mills to produce textiles of quality and efficiency, as well as introduce new working conditions into the American industry. Through a series of interactive, hands-on role-playing exercises, visitors will create a day in the life of a mill girl-from managing the relentless factory floor work pace to sharing meals in the boardinghouses and building relationships within the factory community.
This is an immersion into a story of resilience, adaptability, and influence which the mill girls had on the Lowell factory system. The fact that they were major contributors to the textile innovation, their experiences sparked early movements for workers' rights and women's empowerment, creating an indelible mark in American society during the Industrial Revolution.

Ever-Changing Rollercoaster
Step right into the Ever-Changing Rollercoaster: Visitors will be taken into a design studio and shown a faulty replica of the simple roller coaster model and asked to try and repair it. They will first start by seeing numerous defects in the roller coaster, but they will not be able to replace individual broken parts, causing them to rebuild the whole model from scratch. This is a lengthy process, and it shows the slow aspects of making repairs in machinery where parts are not interchangeable. In the second part of the experiment, they will be exposed to the same, broken model of a roller coaster, but they will be able to identify and remove only the faulty pieces and replace them with viable, working parts, which allows them to fix the roller coaster much faster. This allows tourists to understand how much more efficient having an opportunity to replace some pieces rather than replacing the whole structure is.
After that, tourists can work out a design for their roller coaster and alter different, thus showing the great flexibility and huge saving of time made possible with interchangeable parts. This hands-on activity gives a real sense of how revolutionary interchangeable parts were. Interchangeable parts brought about a complete turnaround in industries: repairs could be brought about more easily in less time and at a lesser cost, while designers could be more imaginative and efficient in creating complicated machines.
Climb aboard for a thrilling water roller coaster adventure inspired by America’s most famous canal, stretching from the Hudson River to Lake Erie. Each cart includes mock crates labeled “Grain,” “Lumber,” and “Iron,” representing goods that once flowed through this canal. Guests can safely place the food or items they bought into these crates. The ride begins by gliding past lifelike props of docks, bustling markets, and merchants shouting out prices, alluding to the new towns, cities, and interstate markets that grew due to the canal. It even goes under a replica bridge, creating the illusion of an actual canalway ride. Eventually, they are taken back to the main area and leave with their merchandise inside the crates, symbolizing the Erie Canal's role in allowing Western farmers to efficiently transport their agricultural goods and receive manufactured goods to and from the East Coast with reduced transportation costs.

This interactive attraction at the rest area invites people of all ages to compete in digging up soil with steel plows to find the buried treasure. While children can use the innovative steel plow, adults must use wooden plows. The children now have a chance at digging faster than their elders, revealing the stark contrast in the efficiency of breaking up tough soil. Whoever digs the fastest can open the chest and win the prize! Additionally, guests will meet the inventor of the steel plow himself, John Deere, who will come by, teach the younger guests how to effectively utilize the steel plow, and tell stories about how this innovation increased food production, supporting westward agricultural expansion and the growth of urban areas.
John Deere’s Treasure

Each bite represents the hard work put into growing these unique crops, with the help of inventions like the steel plow and mechanical reaper, which increased crop yields, enabled farming on a larger scale, and helped grow urban populations. Come and embrace the hearty American pioneer spirit!
Frontier Foodstuffs
In the show, the hosts try to send messages across a mile using two methods: horse and telegraph. The hosts send the messages at the same time. The audience watches as despite the telegraph taking more time to input the message, the message is received in a matter of seconds, as opposed to the horse that’s normally considered fast, taking 2-3 minutes. The hosts then explain how the distance does not change the time much either, stating how it’d still take a few seconds over many miles, in contrast to the horse, which may take several hours over the same distance. They end by saying how the telegraph revolutionized the Union, allowing for economic growth via faster business transactions, the communication needed for military tactics, and more.
Telegraphic Telecommunication
In this game, four people compete to separate 1 pound of cotton from their seeds as fast as possible. Three people are selected to work together to hand-separate the cotton, while the other person is selected to use a cotton gin to separate the cotton. After the game is over, Eli Whitney (over everyone cheeing for him) comes up and explains just how useful the cotton gin is. He explains how like in the game, there is a huge difference in the speed it takes to separate the cotton using manual labor versus using a cotton gin. Combined with the ease of use of the cotton gin, the cotton gin revolutionized agriculture, allowing for for cotton to be produced at far superior speeds with far less labor.

Steamboat Showdown
Welcome to Steamboat Showdown! In this competition, tourists will compete against each other through various tasks on the water, such as transporting goods, ferrying people, and even fishing. In the first round, everyone will use traditional boats, navigating the course with the many obstacles faced by early travelers, including floating logs, other boats, and strong winds. Competitors will go both downstream and upstream, even needing to pull the boat back upstream with a rope—an exhausting process that emphasizes the slow, laborious nature of early water travel. Then, in the second round, the competitors will switch to steamboats, showcasing the revolutionary impact of steam power. With steamboats, tourists will experience firsthand how much faster and more reliable transportation became, since steam engines have continually enabled boats to overcome natural obstacles and currents effortlessly. Comparing the difference between the two types of boats will help guests appreciate how Fulton's invention not only made travel and trade more efficient but also opened up new possibilities for connecting distant regions, such as the United States on the Mississippi River
At the end, a leaderboard will display the fastest times from both rounds, and the winners will earn a free lunch with Mr. Robert Fulton himself, the visionary behind the steamboat.
