The ApOLLO program
1961 - 1975
17 missions
Apollo 11 mission in July 1969: Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the moon.
Huge engeneering and scientific advancements
The Apollo program was a groundbreaking series of space missions conducted by NASA between 1961 and 1975, aimed at landing humans on the Moon and safely returning them to Earth. It was initiated in response to the Space Race with the Soviet Union and culminated in the historic Apollo 11 mission in July 1969, when astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the lunar surface. The program included a total of 17 missions, with Apollo 13 famously surviving a life-threatening in-flight emergency. The Apollo program significantly advanced space exploration, technology, and international prestige, leaving a lasting legacy in science and engineering.
THE ALL-New Artemis Program
2017 - Now
1 carried out mission
Apollo 11 mission in July 1969: Neil Armstrong & Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the moon.
Go back to the moon with updated science equipment and goals to establish a foundation to be able to use the moon as a refuelling station to go to mars
THE GOALS
Bringing humans back to the moon
Exploration of the lunar south pole in hopes of finding ice.
Development of strategies needed for Mars missions
Sustainable lunar presence
Build the lunar gateway to facilitate missions to the moon and beyond.
Scientific discovery and research
Encourage young people around the world to study STEM.
Economic benefit
THE MANY PROBLEMS: NRHO
The orion spacecraft doesn't have enough fuel to achieve low lunar orbit, so the plans have been designed with this orbit in mind:
THE MANY PROBLEMS: STARSHIP
The starship plans require so many lauches per trip to the moon.
The technology does not exist. (To refuel methalox in space)
Sustainable Development Objectives.
Such as landing the first woman on the Moon, thus inspiring the new generations. And by advancing sustainable fuels and reusable rocket technology, ensuring that our journey is cleaner, more efficient, and environmentally friendly.
